With Remote Desktop Connection, you can access a computer running Windows from another computer running Windows that’s connected to the same network or to the Internet. For example, you can use all of your work computer’s programs, files, and network resources from your home computer, and it’s just like you’re sitting in front of your computer at work.
Below will give you a step by step guide about how to setup remote desktop and how to connect to a remote desktop.
Setup remote desktop in Windows 7
1.Go to Control Panel, and select System
2.In the new window click Advanced System settings.
3.Go to the Remote tab,and check Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication.

Note:Of course you can select Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop to allow people using any version of Remote Desktop or RemoteApp to connect to your computer. This is a good choice if you don’t know the version of Remote Desktop Connection that other people are using, but it is less secure than the third option.
4.Click Select users… to add user accounts who have the right to connect to Remote Desktop on this computer
4.Click OK 3 times to finish the setting
Connect to a Remote Desktop
Just go to Start (the Orb) ,input “Remote desktop” in the search field, then click Remote Desktop Connection
Then input the ip address or hostname of the computer you want to connect to,click connect then input the username and password. Now you have connected to this remote desktop, good lucks!

RDC isn’t part of Home or Basic.
Thanks for your suggestions, but it did’nt work because what I can see from my end is diiferent. I can’t see the remote desktop tab after clicking on advanced system setting from control panel. What I have is computer name, hardware and advanced tabs. Pls assist and open my eyes to where the remote tab is, while I keep searching.
Nice, if you would bother to explain how you find the IP address of the computer.
In Windows 7, you can only host RDC with Professional and Ultimate. In Home Premium, you will have RDC without the option to host.
I have Windows 7 Home on my machine. How can i set up remote desktop or where can i get a programme to do it?
I am getting the fallowing error
An authentication error has occurred.

To check your IP address do the following:
-Click Start and go to “All Programs”
-Go to “Accessories” and click on “Command Prompt”
-When the command prompt appears simply type: “ipconfig” and click enter
Your IP address will be listed as the second item on the list.
I dont have the ‘remote desktop’ selection…on the system properties/remote
just set-up my work PC to have RDC with the above instructions given. Will find out tonight if it works once I go home and try to access it with my home PC.
For those with W7 home, there is a hack that seems to activate the RDP server part. It can be downloaded from http://www.mediafire.com/?byec5ab1iriy9db and was created by untermensch666.
For educational purposes I tried it out on my Win7 Home Premium 64bit box and lo and behold I was able to RDP into it from my workstation. Even in concurrent mode.
Note, this is not supported by MS and may break at any time by installing a security update or service pack.
This was fast and straight fwd! thanks!
