Fix can’t see windows xp computers on network in windows 7

If you can’t see windows xp computer /machine names via network in windows 7,please following the below steps to troubleshoot.

1.Make sure they are in the same homegroup.

In windows xp ,right-click My computer Properties ,go to Computer Name tab to verify or change your homegroup.In windows 7 ,right-click My computer PropertiesAdvanced system settings(in left pane) ,then go to Computer Name tab to verify or change your homegroup

2.Change Windows 7 ‘s network type to Work Network 

Go to Control Panel Network and sharing Center ,in the right pane,change your network location to Work Network.

3.Go to Control Panel Network and sharing Center ,in the left pane ,click Change advanced sharing setting,scroll down and  check Enable file sharing for devices that use 40- or 56-bit encryption

4.Reboot,then you should see xp computers / machine from Network (NOT homegroup)

5.If you do all the above steps ,but still can’t see windows xp computers from network,please disable your ipv6,reboot then try again.

Go to Control Panel Network and sharing Center ,in the right pane,click Local Area Connection Properties ,then disable ipv6 ,then reboot

Tip:You can use the similar way to Share folder or printer without password in Windows 7
